Why did you choose it, and what do you hope to do after graduating? At first, I was enrolled in the class because it was a required class to take at the University of Calgary. But after taking the class, I can see why it is, as it teaches great things to not only start a business but also to use in any another project at school or in many other situations. Q: What has your entrepreneurship course(s) taught you? It taught me to get out of my desk and go talk to people. Not everything can be done through the Internet, the best source for research is primary data which comes from interviews, focus groups and just talking to people. Q: Tell us about your entrepreneurial venture. What was the problem you were trying to solve? The problem that eco-LOGic is trying to solve is deforestation, which came from our combined passion of being outdoors as well as create a greener future for...

Start Thinking “Eco-LOGic”-ly!

Do you think you have a $100,000 idea? This Spring, a dozen teams from the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business pitched their best and brightest ideas, vying for the grand prize of nearly $100,000 in cash and in-kind support to launch their start-up. This was the inaugural Hunter Centre RBC Fast Pitch Competition, and if this year is any indication, Fast Pitch will showcase a wealth of innovation for the 21st century. Our Edacity team had the opportunity to chat with four members (Venus, Stephanie, Carly, and Liya) from one of the competing teams, Eco-LOGic, to find out more about their respective entrepreneurial paths and what it’s like to try and sell an idea to a panel of experts in ten minutes or less. Eco-LOGic’s vision is to create an environmentally friendly firewood alternative while fostering the connections between friends and family through the creation and warmth of fire. They have developed a series of environmentally friendly firewood products that could replace the use of firewood in industry.  They have partnered with camps, homeowners, and others to reduce their carbon footprint. You can read more from our three interviews in the links above, and read more about Eco-LOGic on their website...
